Bellbridge Primary School

P.E (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)

Bellbridge is aware of the importance of influencing children to adopt a positive, long-term attitude towards physical activity. This was recognised in 2023 when Bellbridge won the Primary Sports School of the Year award from School Sports Victoria.

Our sporting facilities include two outdoor basketball courts, an oval, a synthetic soccer field and an indoor gymnasium with a wide variety of equipment. We have markings around the school to promote movement, such as hopscotch, four-square and others. We have morning Run Club, lunch time Gaga and Soccer Tournaments, along with access to class sports equipment every day.

Every grade level participates in weekly Physical Education (PE) with two dedicated teachers – involving a range of skills and activities throughout the year. Prep - Grade 2 students participate in activities based around fundamental motor skills, which involves students developing a range of fine and gross motor skills.Grade 3-6 students participate in minor and major games and activities, which focus on sport-specific skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities including:
- Swimming Carnival
- Athletics Carnival
- Cross Country
- Hoop Time Basketball

In Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics and Hoop Time basketball, students have the opportunity to progress from a school level through to District, Division, Regional and State competitions. Students can also individually try out for state teams in netball, football, hockey, soccer and basketball.

As part of the local interschool sports program, Grade 6 (and some Grade 5) students have the opportunity to compete against other schools in our Truganina District, with sports including football, soccer, basketball, netball, t-ball, softball, red ball tennis, volleyball, hockey and cricket. Across the year, students will also be able to participate in clinics provided from external services such as:
- AFL from North Melbourne Football Club and Werribee Football Club
- Rugby from Melbourne Storm
- Cricket from Cricket Australia
- Hockey through Sporting Schools
- Gymnastics through Sporting Schools
- Volleyball through Sporting Schools
