Remote and flexible learning

Picture
Following advice from the Victorian Government on Tuesday 7 April, Bellbridge Primary School moved to remote and flexible learning for Term 2. This is a step all Victorian government schools are taking to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

All students who can learn at home must learn from home.
This is a very clear directive from the Victorian Government based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer.

We will continue to offer limited on-site learning for those students who need to access this, including for students on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made.  Further information about this was provided in a Compass message to parents on 7th April (a copy is available on this page).
It is important that we work together and support each other during this challenging time. Parents might find it useful to look at the Department’s Learning from Home website. It provides resources and guidance for teachers and parents and carers.

Return to on-site schooling

Following advice from the Victorian Government on Tuesday 12 May, some students will be returning to school from Tuesday 26 May.

The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that it is safe for Victorian school students and teachers to return to on-site schooling in a two-staged approach:

  • Stage 1 – from Tuesday 26 May
Prep to Grade 2 students will return to on-site schooling. All staff will attend on-site.

  • Stage 2 - from Tuesday 9 June
Grade 3 to 6 students will return to on-site schooling, subject to health advice.

HOW LONG SHOULD BE SPENT ON SCHOOLWORK?
Guidelines from the Department of Education suggest a daily minimum of:
Grade P-2 students = Approx. 2.0-2.5 hours daily (including 30-45 minutes of play-based learning and physical activity)
Grade 3-6 students = Approx. 3.0-3.5 hours daily (including 30 minutes of physical activity)
  • The usual timetable will not apply.
  • Break times will be 10:30-11:00am and 1:00-1:40pm for EVERYBODY working remotely – students and staff.

DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
It's expected that all students will have at least 30 minutes of physical activity every school day. Ideas for physical activity:
  • Use the spaces, equipment and toys in your home and/or yard.
  • Go for a walk, run or ride with a parent - in line with social distancing.
  • Use the P.E. activities in your year level's specialist tasks. You can look at other year levels too and try those!
  • Join an online exercise class. "PE with Joe" is one example (which is harder than it looks!)
  • Try Mr Henshaw's and Miss Morgan's challenges below!
